Acupuncture uses the insertion of extremely thin needles into the skin, having been used for thousands of years to treat a wide array of different health issues. For example, there are many Canadians who use acupuncture to treat inflammation, stress, immune system response, and management of pain. These are well-known benefits however there are some that are unexpected, a little less explored, and which are being seen in more and more patients.
Acupuncture and sex.
In some people, acupuncture has actually improved Canadians’ sex life by regulating the balance of energies in the body. No matter the gender, acupuncture’s yin-yang philosophy involves putting everything into balance.
Acupuncture can also reduce stress, something which can mess with hormone levels, result in a lack of motivation to engage in intercourse, and which also can reduce a person’s sex drive. Anxiety has been linked with premature ejaculation. As if these weren’t enough to argue the benefits of acupuncture for sex, the therapy can also strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and stimulate the release of endorphins and dopamine to create clam in the body.
Acupuncture and psoriasis.
Can acupuncture help psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis – in some Canadians, this seems to be the case. Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition which causes scaly patches of skin, usually purple or red in color, and which can peel, itch, and bleed. Treating arthritis can involve medicines to address the immune system, skin creams, anti-inflammatories, steroid injections, and the avoidance of triggers like stress.
In the past five years, 3 significant studies were done on acupuncture and psoriasis. One study found “some evidence of benefit”, while the second found acupuncture needles to be very effective at treating psoriasis and with minimal side effects. Lastly, the third study concluded acupuncture could work as an alternative treatment short-term. Acupuncture does not cause any injury to the skin as its’ needles are so thin, sterile, and single-use. If you have psoriasis, join other Canadians in trying acupuncture as a treatment method.
Acupuncture and fertility.
Using acupuncture needles in Canada, some have found it can help in increasing fertility in women. Recently, HGTV star Christina Anstead credited acupuncture with helping her get pregnant. She was told she was infertile due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) but then, something miraculous happened. She began to have acupuncture done regularly and she conceived not long after.
There are already studies sharing acupuncture’s relationship with infertility in women, showing positive results in many. If you’re having trouble conceiving a child or if you are struggling from fertility issues, acupuncture may be something to try. It isn’t necessarily a guarantee to help all women however it has helped several improve their chances of fertility. This is no more evident than in Christina Anstead’s story.
